About Silver Satin Metallic Vinyl - Permanent

Satin silver is a 70 micron metallic PVC film with a soft, brushed-pearl sheen rather than a mirror shine. It has the premium feel of a metal label without the glare, and prints beautifully in dark colours, mono and solid blocks. Used indoors or out, the film is waterproof, scratch resistant and rated for around four years outdoors.

Our inks are slightly translucent, so colours printed directly onto the silver take on a metallic tint, which is often exactly the effect people want. For bright, opaque colour, choose white ink under your artwork in the designer and the white is printed first as a base. Areas left unprinted stay silver.

Satin silver comes with a permanent solvent-free acrylic adhesive, applied dry, suited to smooth surfaces such as glass, coated card, metal tins and product containers. It is not designed for rough or low-energy plastic surfaces.

Description

Custom silver labels & stickers, printed on 70-micron satin metallic vinyl

Satin silver metallic labels printed in the UK on 70-micron self-adhesive vinyl, with a soft-sheen finish that gives cosmetics, candles and spirits a high-class look. Full-colour print, any size or shape, from a single label upwards.

Our printed silver labels are made from a proper 70-micron satin silver vinyl, not a paper imitation, so the metallic surface runs right through the material. The satin finish gives a smooth, low-glare shimmer that reads as more refined than high-gloss - a favourite for premium branding, cosmetics and craft spirits.

These metallic silver labels are water resistant, UV resistant and hold up outdoors as well as in. Printed with scratch-resistant eco-solvent inks, they won’t smudge or fade in a hurry, and the permanent adhesive grips smooth surfaces like glass jars, bottles and product containers.

Because the CMYK inks are slightly translucent, you can print straight onto the silver for a subtle metallic tint, or add a white under-base so colours come out as vibrant as they would on paper. Design online or upload your own print-ready artwork - order a single label or several thousand. Want more shine? See our polished silver labels too.

By approving your proof you accept the following. Colour is reproduced as accurately as possible but cannot be guaranteed to match your screen, a printed sample or a previous order exactly. Differences between rich (full-colour) black and single black, colours sitting near the edge of the CMYK gamut, fine tints and slight variation between materials, finishes and print batches are a normal part of the printing process and may not be visible on your on-screen proof. These are considered within standard commercial print tolerance and are not classed as a fault. Where any question of print quality arises, StickyThings is the final arbiter of whether a job has printed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are silver satin labels waterproof?

Yes. They’re printed on satin silver vinyl with eco-solvent inks, so they’re water resistant, UV resistant and scratch resistant. They wipe clean and stay intact indoors or outdoors, with around four years of external weathering.

What’s the difference between satin and polished silver?

Satin silver has a smooth, soft-sheen metallic surface for an understated, high-class look. Our polished silver material is far more reflective and shiny. If you’re unsure which suits your product, order a free sample of each first.

Will my printed colours look metallic?

That’s your choice. Our CMYK inks are slightly translucent, so printed straight onto the silver they pick up a metallic tint but look a little duller. Add a white under-base and the colours print as vibrant as they would on paper, with the silver showing through unprinted areas.

What surfaces does the adhesive suit?

These labels come with a permanent adhesive only, which grips smooth surfaces well - glass jars, bottles and product containers. It bonds strongly and isn’t designed to be peeled off and reused.

Are they supplied on sheets or cut individually?

As standard they come on approximately A4 sheets. We can cut them individually for a small fee if you’d prefer - just let us know when you order. Minimum order is a single label.

How quickly will I get my silver labels?

Once you approve the PDF proof we send by email, we get straight to print. For our current production and delivery times, please see our turnaround and delivery page.

Should I choose satin or polished silver?

Satin if the label carries small text, photographs or will be read under lamps: its diffuse sheen reads at every angle and hides fingerprints. Polished if you want a chrome badge effect with bold graphics. Brushed aluminium gives an engineered, machined-plate look. Order samples of each with your own artwork.

Will small text be readable on satin silver?

Yes. Dark text prints legibly straight onto satin silver down to about 5 pt because the surface reflects evenly, which is why satin is used for ingredient panels and back labels. On polished silver the same text disappears where the light catches unless it has a white underbase.

Finish guide

Choosing between satin, polished and brushed silver

We print three silver finishes, and the difference between them decides whether a label reads as refined, as chrome or as machined metal. Satin is the one designers pick when they are not sure, because it forgives: it reflects softly at every angle, takes small type, and photographs without hot spots. This guide sets the three side by side, explains what the satin surface does to printed colour, and shows the layouts, type sizes and products where satin silver is the right call.

What satin does to colour

The inks are translucent on every metallic, so a colour printed straight onto satin becomes a metallic version of itself, exactly as on polished silver, but softer: the diffuse surface takes the glint out and leaves a pearlescent tint. Reds become a warm rose-metal, blues a steel blue, black a dark pewter. Over a white ink underbase the colour returns to its printed value with a slight satin texture, which is why photographs and brand colours work on satin where they struggle on mirror.

Because the reflection is even, satin also lets text be printed directly onto the metal at small sizes: a dark grey or black at 5 or 6 pt is legible on satin from any angle, while on mirror the same text vanishes when the light catches it. That single property is why satin is the working finish for ingredients panels on premium cosmetics and back labels on spirits.

Type and layout on satin silver

  1. Dark on silver, not light on silver

Charcoal, navy, deep burgundy and black all read well straight onto satin. Pale colours become faint tints; use them only over white ink.

  2. Serifs and scripts work

Because the surface is even, fine serifs and thin script strokes hold; satin is the metallic for typographic labels.

  3. Leave silver space

A generous unprinted margin lets the metal do the talking. Crowded metallic labels look cheap; sparse ones look expensive.

  4. Rules and frames in a single tint

A hairline rule in translucent black gives an engraved look. Avoid heavy borders.

  5. Match your hardware

Satin silver labels sit with brushed steel caps, matt aluminium tins and frosted glass; polished sits with chrome. Hold the material against the packaging before deciding.

Products that suit satin silver

Candles in glass and tins, where the label is read up close under lamps and glare would hurt; skincare and fragrance with long ingredient panels; craft spirits' back labels; equipment nameplates and rating plates that need to be read in a workshop from any angle; wedding and event stationery seals; and gift and hamper labels for winter ranges. The vinyl is waterproof and UV stable, the permanent adhesive holds on glass, metal and rigid plastics, and the laminate is available for products that are handled daily. Satin silver pairs with our satin gold for two-tier ranges where the same layout marks the standard and the premium line.
