About Paper labels - white uncoated (sheets)

Our paper labels are printed on a bright white, uncoated, FSC certified wood-free paper. The uncoated surface has a natural, slightly textured feel, prints crisp detail and can be written on with a ballpoint pen, which makes it ideal for batch numbers, dates and hand-finished packaging. They are supplied on sheets with a kraft backing liner that peels easily.

Paper is our most economical label and the right choice for indoor use: jars and bottles on a shelf, boxes, bags, envelopes, price and shelf-edge labels, and short-life packaging. It is not waterproof and will mark if it gets wet, so for products that live in a fridge, bathroom or outdoors choose one of our vinyl materials.

The adhesive is a permanent water-based acrylic that bonds well to card, paper, glass and smooth plastics, and it is the same stock we use for chilled food labelling.

Description

Custom paper labels & stickers, printed in full colour on uncoated sheets

Custom printed paper labels made in the UK on premium uncoated stock, supplied on easy-peel SRA4 sheets on a single uncoated white eco stock. Full-colour print across a wide range of popular sizes and four shapes, from a couple of sheets upwards.

Our printed paper labels give growing brands a professional, high-quality finish without stretching your margins. Made on responsibly sourced paper from managed European forests, they suit indoor jobs where excess moisture isn’t a factor - think jars, boxes, bottles, hampers, gift packaging and retail products.

The natural uncoated surface prints crisp and true, with outstanding whiteness and high opacity keeping fine text sharp and brand colours faithful. It also takes a pen beautifully, so batch numbers, best-before dates or a handwritten note can be added after printing with no fuss.

There’s no big minimum and no set-up faff - order a couple of sheets to try them, or several thousand labels for a full run, and mix different designs in one order. Design online with our label designer or upload your own print-ready artwork.

Our print guarantee

We print exactly what you approve, matched as closely as we can to your on-screen proof - with a natural tolerance for colour and material differences.

What we guarantee

  • Colour reproduced as closely as possible to your approved proof
  • Sharp, high-quality printing and clean, accurate cutting
  • Any printing, cutting or material fault is on us - we’ll put it right or reprint free

What’s down to you

  • Spelling, wording and layout in your artwork
  • Setting up white ink and clear areas correctly for your design
  • We can’t improve low-quality graphics - upload poor resolution and it will print at poor resolution
  • We print your design exactly as approved, so please check your proof carefully

By approving your proof you accept the following. Colour is reproduced as accurately as possible but cannot be guaranteed to match your screen, a printed sample or a previous order exactly. Differences between rich (full-colour) black and single black, colours sitting near the edge of the CMYK gamut, fine tints and slight variation between materials, finishes and print batches are a normal part of the printing process and may not be visible on your on-screen proof. These are considered within standard commercial print tolerance and are not classed as a fault. Where any question of print quality arises, StickyThings is the final arbiter of whether a job has printed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are paper labels waterproof?

No - paper labels are designed for indoor use where excess moisture isn’t an issue, which suits jars, boxes, gift packaging and retail products. For bathrooms, fridges, freezers or outdoor use, choose our vinyl labels instead.

What paper is it printed on?

A single premium stock: a responsibly sourced, uncoated white eco paper with a smooth, natural surface. It prints in full colour with excellent whiteness and opacity, and because it’s uncoated it takes a pen well for writing on afterwards.

Can I write on paper labels?

Yes - on the blank, unprinted parts of the label. The uncoated paper takes a pen or fine marker easily on any area you leave clear, so it’s simple to add batch numbers, best-before dates or a personal message after printing. Heavily printed areas won’t take pen as well, so leave a clear space if you plan to write.

Are these paper labels eco-friendly?

They are. Our paper is sourced from responsibly managed European forests and produced with low-waste sheet manufacturing, giving you a premium result and a lighter footprint for your brand’s sustainability story.

What is the minimum order?

There’s no big minimum. Paper labels are supplied on SRA4 sheets, so the smallest order is two sheets’ worth of your chosen size (shown as a label count when you pick a size), which keeps short runs affordable. The price per label then drops as you add more sheets.

How quickly will I get my labels?

Once you approve your proof we get straight to print. For our current production and delivery times, please see our turnaround and delivery page.

Material guide

Uncoated paper, and why it is still the workhorse

Look around any office, shop, kitchen or warehouse and most of the labels you see are paper. It is the most cost-effective label we print, it looks natural rather than plastic, and it does everything an indoor label needs to do. Here is what ours is made of, where it belongs, and where you should choose vinyl instead.

Our paper labels are printed on a 70 gsm white, wood-free, uncoated paper. The face paper is FSC-certified, sourced from responsibly managed European forests. The adhesive is a permanent, water-based acrylic with no solvents, and the whole construction is tested to EN 71-3, the toy safety standard for the migration of certain elements, which is why the same stock is trusted on children's products and on food packaging. Labels are supplied kiss-cut on easy-peel SRA4 sheets, so the backing stays in one piece and each label lifts off cleanly.

The one rule of thumb

If the label will get wet, rubbed against, or live in a fridge for weeks, print it on vinyl. If it goes on a box, a jar in a dry cupboard, an envelope, a shelf edge, a folder or a product that is sold and used indoors, paper does the job for less.

Print your own, or let us?

Plenty of businesses start by printing labels on an office printer, and for a handful of labels that is fine. Once you are printing them every week, it is worth adding up what a sheet really costs you.

  • Label stock. Blank sheets from a stationer cost more per label than a finished, printed label from us at anything over a few hundred.
  • Ink or toner. Solid colour and photos drain cartridges quickly, and inkjet on plain label paper smudges when it is touched.
  • Misprints and jams. Label sheets are thicker than paper and printers are fussy about them. A jammed sheet is a wasted sheet.
  • Your time. Loading, aligning, reprinting and trimming, when you could be making or selling.
  • Fixed sizes. You are limited to the die-cut layouts the stationer sells. We cut any size and shape you type in.

Our labels come off calibrated industrial presses that print thousands of paper labels a day. Fine text stays crisp, logos stay sharp and colours are matched to your approved proof and held consistent from batch to batch. Reprints are simple too: your artwork stays on your account, so the next run is a couple of clicks.

An SRA4 sheet of 51 millimetre round labels YOURLOGOHERE 320 mm 225 mm
Labels are kiss-cut on SRA4 sheets (225 x 320 mm). The backing stays whole, so a sheet of round labels peels one at a time and the rest stay put.

Getting the best from paper

  1. Expect a natural matt look

Uncoated paper absorbs a little ink, so colours sit slightly softer than they do on gloss vinyl. It suits kraft, artisan and stationery-style branding. If you want punchy saturated colour, choose vinyl.

  2. Keep text at 6pt or larger

Fine text prints cleanly, but paper has a slight texture. Body copy at 6pt, allergen and warning text at 7pt, and no hairlines thinner than 0.25pt.

  3. Run backgrounds to the bleed

Any colour or photo that reaches the edge of the label must extend past the cut line to the bleed guide the designer shows, or you risk a white sliver on one side.

  4. Leave room for a pen

Design a blank box for dates, batch numbers or a name. It is the reason many customers choose paper over vinyl.

  5. Apply to a dry, dust-free surface

The permanent adhesive bonds fully over 24 hours. Press from the centre outwards and avoid repositioning: paper stretches if you lift it.

Where paper labels earn their keep

The list is long, which is the point. Address and return labels on parcels and envelopes. Product labels on boxes, tubes and dry-goods jars. Price and shelf-edge labels in shops. Promotional and charity stickers handed out at events. Asset and folder labels in an office. Ingredient and best-before labels on bakery and café packaging. Kraft-style branding for candles, soaps and handmade goods where the container stays dry. Wine, gin and beer bottle labels for indoor display, where you want the traditional papery feel. If it sits indoors and stays dry, paper is the sensible first choice.

The labels looked fantastic, better than I anticipated given I designed them and I’m not a designer or very creative. They arrived exactly in line with the website statement. Really pleased with the labels. Thank you

I like the range choice of the sizes, the quality of the image and the fast service. I would also appreciate if there was any option to choose between different type of papers, but other than this the labels are great. Thank you.
