About Gloss Laminated Vinyl - High Tack

Laminated vinyl is our toughest label. The print is sandwiched between a 100 micron white gloss vinyl and a 70 micron clear protective laminate, so nothing reaches the ink in normal use. It resists abrasion, fuels, oils, cleaning chemicals and years of sun, and is rated for around five years outdoors. The material is sold to us as an extreme-sports grade vinyl, and it is used on motocross bikes, jet skis, snowboards and surfboards.

Choose it for equipment and asset labels, machinery, outdoor signage, vehicles, tools, and anything that is handled hard, washed down or left in the weather. If a plain vinyl label would fade, scuff or wear through where it is touched, lamination solves it.

The adhesive is the same high tack permanent acrylic as our high tack vinyl, so it holds on low-energy plastics, powder-coated metal, wood and textured surfaces as well as glass and metal. It is a permanent bond and is not designed to be removed.

Description

Custom laminated waterproof vinyl labels & stickers, printed in the UK

Heavy-duty laminated vinyl labels printed in the UK on 100-micron vinyl with a 70-micron gloss laminate over the top, giving full-colour print that shrugs off water, UV, chemicals and abrasion. Any custom size, from a single label upwards.

These are the toughest labels we make. The ink is sandwiched between a 100-micron waterproof vinyl base and a 70-micron protective laminate, so scuffing, weather and daily wear have nothing to bite on. Printed with eco-solvent inks that won’t smudge when wet and stay UV resistant for years.

It’s an extreme-sports grade material - the same stock used on motocross bikes, jet-skis, snowboards and surfboards, where labels take a proper battering. If it holds up to that, it’ll cope with outdoor, industrial and heavy-use labelling without lifting, fading or wearing away.

There’s an extra permanent adhesive as standard, formulated to grip low-energy surfaces that beat ordinary labels - car bumpers, laptops, medals, rough metals and wood. Supplied on easy-peel sheets in full colour, cut to your exact measurements, with our lowest order set at a single label.

Laminated for durability

A 70-micron gloss laminate seals the print, guarding against abrasion, UV and weather in the most demanding outdoor conditions.

Extreme-sports grade vinyl

The same tough 100-micron stock used on motocross, jet-ski and surfboards, rated for five years of external weathering.

Extra permanent adhesive

A high-tack bond made for low-energy surfaces like bumpers, laptops, medals and rough metals where standard labels let go.

Chemical & water resistant

Resists mineral oils, fuels, mild acids and salt, and stays readable wet - REACH and RoHS compliant throughout.

Our print guarantee

We print exactly what you approve, matched as closely as we can to your on-screen proof - with a natural tolerance for colour and material differences.

What we guarantee

  • Colour reproduced as closely as possible to your approved proof
  • Sharp, high-quality printing and clean, accurate cutting
  • Any printing, cutting or material fault is on us - we’ll put it right or reprint free

What’s down to you

  • Spelling, wording and layout in your artwork
  • Setting up white ink and clear areas correctly for your design
  • We can’t improve low-quality graphics - upload poor resolution and it will print at poor resolution
  • We print your design exactly as approved, so please check your proof carefully

By approving your proof you accept the following. Colour is reproduced as accurately as possible but cannot be guaranteed to match your screen, a printed sample or a previous order exactly. Differences between rich (full-colour) black and single black, colours sitting near the edge of the CMYK gamut, fine tints and slight variation between materials, finishes and print batches are a normal part of the printing process and may not be visible on your on-screen proof. These are considered within standard commercial print tolerance and are not classed as a fault. Where any question of print quality arises, StickyThings is the final arbiter of whether a job has printed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

How durable are laminated vinyl labels?

Very. With the ink sealed between a 100-micron vinyl base and a 70-micron laminate coating, it’s difficult for water, UV or abrasion to penetrate during normal use. The material is rated for around five years of external weathering, so it holds up outdoors for years.

What makes these different from standard waterproof labels?

Standard waterproof vinyl labels suit outdoor use but have no top coat. The lamination adds a protective layer that guards against scuffing, chemicals and UV, making these the better choice where abrasion or harsh weather is at its worst.

Will the adhesive stick to difficult surfaces?

Yes. These come with an extra permanent, high-tack adhesive designed for low-energy surfaces such as car bumpers, laptops, medals, wood and rough metals - jobs where a standard label won’t provide enough bonding strength.

Are they resistant to chemicals and fuels?

The unprinted film resists mineral oils, fats and fuels, aliphatic solvents, mild acids, salt and alkali - including diesel, petrol, paraffin, hydraulic oil and antifreeze. The material is also REACH and RoHS compliant.

Can I get them in any size and order just one?

You can. Labels are printed full colour on sheets in any custom size, and our lowest order is a single label. If you’re unsure the material suits your job, order a free logo sample first to test the adhesive and finish.

How quickly will I get my labels?

Once you approve your PDF proof we get straight to print. For our current production and delivery times, please see our turnaround and delivery page.

What is the difference between laminated and standard waterproof vinyl?

Both are waterproof. On standard vinyl the ink sits in the surface of the film, so solvents soften it and abrasion wears it. Laminated labels seal the ink under a 70 micron clear film, so fuel, brake cleaner, pressure washing and years of sun cannot reach the print.

Are laminated labels suitable for chemical containers?

Yes, laminated vinyl with the high tack adhesive is the right base for CLP and GHS hazard labels on workshop chemicals, cleaning products and fuels. If you need certified marine durability to BS 5609, ask us before ordering, as that needs specific tested materials.

Laminated labels guide

What a laminate adds, and when you need it

Our standard vinyl label is already waterproof and UV resistant. A laminated label goes one step further: a 70 micron clear film is bonded over the print, so the ink is sealed between two layers of plastic and nothing touches it. That is the difference between a label that survives rain and a label that survives fuel, brake cleaner, a pressure washer and a decade of sun. This guide explains what the laminate protects against, where it is essential, and where it is money you do not need to spend.

The construction

  • Clear gloss laminate, 70 micron, bonded over the print. Optically clear, so colours look deeper rather than dulled.
  • 100 micron white gloss vinyl face, the same extreme-sports grade film used for motocross and jet-ski graphics.
  • High tack permanent adhesive as standard: 22 N per 25 mm on glass after 20 minutes, 28 N after a day, formulated for polypropylene, polyethylene and textured surfaces.
  • Service temperature -30 to +100 degrees; rated for around five years outdoors.

What the laminate stops

On an unlaminated label, ink sits in the top surface of the vinyl. Solvents soften it, grit abrades it and years of UV slowly bleach it. Under a laminate the ink is never touched: wipe it with acetone, scrub it with a brush, leave it on a boat deck, and the print underneath is untouched. The laminate also stiffens the label, which helps it lie flat on rough surfaces and resist edge-picking by fingernails and jet washers.

Chemical labels and GHS

A label on a drum, jerrycan or spray bottle has to stay legible after the contents have run down it. Laminated vinyl is the right base for CLP and GHS hazard labels on workshop chemicals, cleaning products and fuels; the pictograms are in the label designer's icon library. If you need certified marine durability to the BS 5609 standard, ask us before ordering, as that requires specific tested materials.

Where laminated labels are used

  • Motorsport and watersports. Motocross bikes, jet-skis, kayaks, surfboards and snowboards, where the graphics take grit, fuel and impact.
  • Machinery and plant. Rating plates, control labels and safety warnings on equipment that is hosed down or works outside.
  • Chemicals and fuels. Drum, container and dispenser labels that meet solvents daily.
  • Vehicles. Bumper stickers, van livery details, fleet numbers and door decals through car washes.
  • Marine and outdoor. Boat names and registration marks, mooring and equipment labels, garden machinery.
  • Personal kit. Laptop, toolbox, helmet, water bottle and medal stickers that live in bags and get handled constantly.

Application on hard surfaces

  1. Degrease

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Fuel residue, polish and release agent on new plastic all defeat the bond.

  2. Apply dry and warm

Above 10 degrees. On large flat panels the high tack adhesive tolerates wet application with a mist of soapy water and a squeegee.

  3. Press hard

The laminate makes the label stiffer, so use a squeegee or a firm cloth from the centre out and work the edges twice, especially over texture.

  4. Round the corners

Sharp corners on a stiff label catch and lift; a 3 mm radius on every rectangle avoids that. The designer adds it at no cost.

  5. Wait 24 hours

Before washing, fuelling or riding. The bond keeps building for up to three days on low-energy plastics.
