About Gold Mirror Vinyl - Permanent

Polished gold is a 65 micron metallised PVC with a bright, mirror-like gold surface. It is the most reflective gold we print and gives the highest-impact result for premium branding, seals, awards, spirits and gift packaging. The surface is waterproof and scratch resistant and the unprinted film is rated for around five years outdoors.

Our inks are slightly translucent, so colours printed straight onto the mirror finish take on a metallic shimmer. For bright, opaque colour, choose white ink under your artwork in the designer and the white is printed first as a base; unprinted areas stay mirror gold. Fine mono designs and single-colour logos look particularly striking.

The adhesive is a permanent pressure-sensitive acrylic that holds well on glass, coated card, metal and smooth product containers. It is not suited to low-energy plastics such as ABS or polypropylene, and it is best applied at room temperature.

Description

Custom gold metallic labels & stickers, printed on polished mirror-gold film

Polished gold metallic labels printed in the UK on 65-micron metallised film, supplied on sheets with a bright, mirror-gold finish and a permanent waterproof adhesive. Full-colour print, any custom size or shape, from a single label upwards.

Our polished gold labels have a genuine reflective metal look that is easily mistaken for far pricier engraved plaques. Printed on metallised PVC with a permanent solvent adhesive, they give packaging, spirits, cosmetics and gifts a high-class finish for a fraction of the cost of real metal.

The CMYK inks we print are slightly translucent, so you can overlay artwork straight onto the gold for a soft metallic tint, or add a white under-base first for colours as vibrant as they would be on paper. Solid blocks of colour and mono designs both look superb against the mirror-gold base.

Printed with eco-solvent inks, these gold stickers are water resistant, scratch resistant and UV stable for use indoors and out. There is no minimum order and no set-up fee - order one label or several thousand, mix designs in a single run, and design online or upload your own artwork. Prefer a softer look? We also make a satin gold material.

  • Sharp, high-quality printing and clean, accurate cutting

What’s down to you

  • We can’t improve low-quality graphics - upload poor resolution and it will print at poor resolution
  • We print your design exactly as approved, so please check your proof carefully

By approving your proof you accept the following. Colour is reproduced as accurately as possible but cannot be guaranteed to match your screen, a printed sample or a previous order exactly. Differences between rich (full-colour) black and single black, colours sitting near the edge of the CMYK gamut, fine tints and slight variation between materials, finishes and print batches are a normal part of the printing process and may not be visible on your on-screen proof. These are considered within standard commercial print tolerance and are not classed as a fault. Where any question of print quality arises, StickyThings is the final arbiter of whether a job has printed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are these gold labels waterproof?

Yes. They are printed on metallised PVC with eco-solvent inks and a permanent waterproof adhesive, so they wipe clean, resist scratches and UV, and can be used both indoors and outdoors without smudging.

How do you print colour onto gold material?

Our CMYK inks are slightly translucent. Printed directly onto the gold they take on a metallic tint with a slightly duller look, or we can lay down a white under-base first so your colours print as vibrant as they would on paper. Mono and solid blocks of colour both look excellent.

What is the difference between polished and satin gold?

Polished gold is bright, shiny and highly reflective, like a mirror. Satin gold is the same material with a softer, less reflective finish. If you are unsure which suits your design, order a free sample of both first.

What surfaces will the adhesive stick to?

These labels come with a permanent adhesive that bonds to most smooth surfaces such as glass, metal, card and boxes. It does not suit low-energy plastics like ABS or car bumpers, so please test with a free sample if in doubt.

Can I order custom shapes and sizes?

Yes. Enter any width and height for a standard shape, or supply a vector cutter guide for a bespoke die-cut. The minimum order is just one label, and the price per label drops as your quantity grows.

How quickly will I get my gold labels?

Once you approve your proof we get straight to print, with all polished material held in stock. For our current production and delivery times, please see our turnaround and delivery page.

Why do colours look different on polished gold labels?

Our inks are slightly translucent, so anything printed straight onto the gold takes on a metallic cast and darkens; light colours and white turn to gold tints. Dark colours print beautifully. For true colour in specific areas, ask for a white ink under-base beneath them.

Can polished gold labels be used outdoors?

The polished film is specified for interior and dry use, where its mirror finish stays flawless. For gold labels on products that are handled, chilled or kept outside, choose our satin gold vinyl, which is waterproof and rated for around three years outdoors.

Mirror gold guide

Designing for a mirror finish

Polished gold is the brightest material we print: a 65 micron metallised film with a chrome-like mirror surface. It looks like a piece of gold plate, and that is exactly what makes it demanding to design for. The surface reflects everything, the inks are translucent, and every fingerprint and bubble shows. Used well it is spectacular; used carelessly it looks like a novelty sticker. Here is how to get the former.

Let the gold be the design

The strongest polished gold labels use the unprinted film as a colour. A dark navy or black label with the logo left unprinted reads as a gold logo on a coloured plaque; a fine gold border around a printed panel does the same. Because our CMYK inks are slightly translucent, any colour printed straight onto the gold takes on a metallic cast and darkens, so:

  • Black, deep blues, burgundy and forest green print beautifully and make the gold glow by contrast.
  • Light colours, pastels and white will not print as you see them on screen; they turn to gold tints. If the design needs them, ask for a white ink under-base, which puts an opaque white layer under those areas so the colours print true, leaving the rest of the label mirror gold.
  • Photographs look best with a white under-base; without it they take on a sepia-gold tone, which can be a deliberate effect.

Type and line weight

Fine serifs and thin rules look expensive on gold but need enough weight to survive: 0.5pt for rules and 7pt for type. Reversed-out (unprinted) type showing gold through a dark panel should be 8pt or larger so the mirror reads as letters rather than glints.

Two ways to design on mirror gold: dark panel with gold showing through, and full colour on a white under-base Elder SINGLE MALT ORCHARD Gold through a dark panel Leave the logo unprinted Colour on a white under-base True colour, gold border
Left: a navy panel printed onto the gold with the name left unprinted, so the mirror shows through as the type. Right: a white ink under-base carrying a full-colour logo, framed by the bare gold film.

Polished, satin or foil?

OptionShineWhere it livesBest for
Polished gold vinyl (this product)Mirror, chrome-likeIndoor and dry; the film's specification is for interior useSeals, awards, spirits on a shelf, luxury gift boxes, jewellery cards
Satin gold vinylSoft brushed-pearl sheenIndoor and out, around three years outdoorsCosmetics, candles, honey, chocolate, anything handled or chilled
Gold foil on paperReal metal, single colourIndoor and dryStationery, wedding seals, chocolate boxes, wine in dry storage
Mirror shows everything

Fingerprints, dust under the film and application bubbles are invisible on white vinyl and obvious on a mirror. Handle the labels by the edges, apply to a clean surface in one movement, and squeegee from the centre out. If the product is handled a lot, satin gold hides marks and is the better choice.

Where polished gold works

  • Seals and closures. A round gold seal over a box lid, a bottle capsule or a certificate is the classic use: small, bright and unmistakably premium.
  • Spirits and wine for display and gifting. A neck label or a small crest on the front label; keep the ingredient panel on white or satin.
  • Cosmetics and fragrance outer boxes and lids, where the product is unboxed once and displayed.
  • Awards, plaques and recognition: engraved-look name plates on trophies and presentation boxes.
  • Wedding and event stationery seals and favour labels, matched to gold foil on the invitations.
  • Jewellery and watch packaging, where a mirror logo on a black box is the expected finish.

The permanent adhesive bonds to card, glass, painted metal and smooth plastics. Apply dry, at room temperature, and let it set for 24 hours before the item is handled or shipped.

Peter H.Metallic polished labels3 weeks ago

This is the second time I have ordered here. The product is brilliant, but this time round I have given 4 stars. This is because I am having great difficulty removing the labels from the print paper, I don’t think the label cutting machine has gone deep enough to separate the label from the paper. I hope with future orders this can be resolved.
