About Gloss vinyl - Permanent

Our standard white gloss vinyl is the workhorse of the range: a 100 micron white PVC film with a bright, smooth surface that prints sharp, saturated colour and a clean gloss finish. It is fully waterproof, so print will not run or smudge when wet, and the film shrugs off oil, grease, fridges, freezers and everyday knocks. Outdoors it is rated for around five years before the colours start to soften.

This is the material most of our customers choose for product labels, packaging, bottles and jars, logo stickers and general labelling around a workshop or kitchen. If you need to write on a label you can, with a permanent fine-tip marker, which is handy for batch codes and dates.

The adhesive is a permanent solvent-free acrylic. It grips smooth and lightly textured surfaces firmly within 24 hours and is designed to stay put for years. It is not intended for very low-energy plastics such as polypropylene tubs or ABS: for those, look at our high tack vinyl. Labels are supplied on sheets with a gap between each one, so they peel off individually.

Description

Custom bakery labels & stickers, printed on paper or waterproof vinyl

Custom printed bakery labels made in the UK in full colour, supplied on easy-peel sheets in any size or shape - choose self-adhesive paper for a natural look or waterproof vinyl for chilled, greaseproof and jarred goods, from a single label upwards.

Good bakery labels do two jobs at once - they sell the product and they carry the detail your customers need. Print your logo, flavour, ingredients, allergens and best-before dates in full colour, and give bread, cakes, brownies and traybakes a finish that looks as considered as the baking inside the box.

Pick the material to match the job. Self-adhesive paper suits kraft bags, boxes and dry goods for an honest, hand-made look, while our waterproof vinyl labels handle jars, chilled counters, greaseproof wrap and anything that might see moisture or a fridge without wrinkling or smudging.

There’s no minimum order and no set-up fee - order one label or several thousand, mix designs in a single run at no extra cost, and either design online or upload your own artwork. Not sure which material suits your packaging? Order a free sample pack and test the adhesive and finish first.

  • Sharp, high-quality printing and clean, accurate cutting

  • We print your design exactly as approved, so please check your proof carefully

By approving your proof you accept the following. Colour is reproduced as accurately as possible but cannot be guaranteed to match your screen, a printed sample or a previous order exactly. Differences between rich (full-colour) black and single black, colours sitting near the edge of the CMYK gamut, fine tints and slight variation between materials, finishes and print batches are a normal part of the printing process and may not be visible on your on-screen proof. These are considered within standard commercial print tolerance and are not classed as a fault. Where any question of print quality arises, StickyThings is the final arbiter of whether a job has printed correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are your bakery labels waterproof?

The vinyl option is. Printed on waterproof material with scratch and water-resistant ink, it copes with chilled counters, greaseproof wrap and damp jars without smudging. Paper labels are more cost-effective and suit dry boxes and bags where moisture isn’t a concern.

Can I include ingredients, allergens and best-before dates?

Yes. Labels are printed in full colour with plenty of room for ingredients, allergen information, nutritional detail and best-before or use-by dates, alongside your logo and any promotional claims like ‘no added sugar’ or ‘freshly baked’.

Should I choose paper or vinyl?

Paper gives a natural, cost-effective finish that works well on kraft bags and boxes. Vinyl is waterproof and hard-wearing, available in white or clear with a matt or gloss finish, and better for jars, chilled items and anything that might get wet. If you’re unsure, order a free sample first.

Will the labels stick to jars and packaging?

They use a permanent adhesive, so they stay attached during transit and won’t peel from jars, boxes or containers during normal use. For clear jars we can add a white ink layer so your colours stay bright against the glass.

What is the minimum order?

Just one. Order a single bakery label or several thousand on sheets, and the price per label drops as your quantity grows - handy for small-batch bakers and market stalls.

How quickly will I get my bakery labels?

Once you approve your proof we get straight to print. For our current production and delivery times, please see our turnaround and delivery page.

Do I need to list allergens on cake box labels?

If the cake is packed before the customer chooses it, yes: the label needs the name of the food and a full ingredients list with the fourteen regulated allergens emphasised, for example WHEAT, EGGS and MILK in bold. Made-to-order goods need allergen information available but not a label.

Will labels stick to greaseproof or kraft bags?

Vinyl labels will. Grease wicks into paper labels and leaves translucent marks, so for bags, wrappers and anything oily choose gloss or matt vinyl. Paper labels are ideal for dry card boxes and sleeves.

Bakery labelling guide

Allergens, dates and packaging: labelling baked goods

A bakery handles more of the fourteen regulated allergens in one morning than most food businesses do in a week: wheat, eggs, milk, nuts, soya and sesame are in the building whether or not they are in the recipe. That makes bakery labelling mostly about allergens and dates, and about getting a label to stick to greaseproof paper, kraft bags and cake boxes. This guide covers those three things.

Allergen labelling in a bakery

Bread, cakes and pastries you pack before a customer chooses them are "prepacked for direct sale" and need a label with the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with allergens emphasised. Goods packed to sell off the shelf, such as bagged biscuits or boxed brownies with a shelf life, need the full prepacked set on top of that.

  • Name the cereal. "Wheat flour" with WHEAT in bold, not "flour" and not "gluten". Rye, barley, oats and spelt are listed by name too.
  • Emphasise inside the list. Bold, capitals or a contrasting colour on the allergen word itself. A separate "contains" line is optional and does not replace it.
  • Compound ingredients. Chocolate chips (sugar, cocoa mass, MILK), custard (MILK, EGG), marzipan (ALMONDS). The ingredients of each ingredient are listed.
  • "May contain" is for real risk. Precautionary statements are for unavoidable cross-contamination you have assessed, such as nuts handled on the same bench. Do not use them as a catch-all; it devalues the warning and the Food Standards Agency discourages it.
  • Vegan is not allergen-free. A vegan cake made in a kitchen that uses milk and egg still needs a may-contain statement if there is a genuine risk.

Our café labelling guide lists all fourteen allergens and the minimum text sizes; the same rules apply here.

Example ingredients label for a brownie with allergens emphasised Salted Caramel Brownie Ingredients: Dark chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, SOYA lecithin), BUTTER (MILK), sugar, EGGS, WHEAT flour, caramel (sugar, CREAM (MILK), glucose), cocoa powder, sea salt, vanilla extract. May contain NUTS and SESAME. Best before: 28 Sep Store in a cool, dry place. Net weight 85 g e Hollow Way Bakery, 3 Market Place, Wells BA5 2RB
A 90 x 55 mm brownie label. Five allergens emphasised inside the list, a genuine may-contain line for the nut bench, and the prepacked extras: date, storage, weight and address.

Best before or use by

ProductDate typeWhy
Bread, rolls, biscuits, traybakes, plain cakesBest beforeQuality declines but the food stays safe; it can be sold and eaten after the date.
Cream cakes, custard tarts, cheesecakes, fresh-filled itemsUse byMicrobiological risk. Must not be sold or eaten after the date; keep refrigerated wording alongside.
Frozen-then-thawed goodsUse by, plus "previously frozen"Customers need to know not to refreeze. Add a "frozen on" date if you freeze in-house.
Sold the same day, made to orderNone requiredA "made on" date is still good practice and reassures customers.
Print the fixed text, write the date

Print everything that never changes, ingredients, allergens, weight and address, and leave a blank box for the date. Paper and matt vinyl both take a pen or a date stamp, so one label design covers a whole season without reprinting every time the batch changes.

Getting a label to stick to bakery packaging

PackagingMaterialWhy
Cake boxes, cupcake boxes, card sleevesUncoated paperCard is dry and porous; paper sticks instantly, matches the box and can be written on. Use a round seal over the lid tab.
Kraft and greaseproof bagsGloss or matt vinylGrease wicks into paper labels and leaves translucent blotches; vinyl shrugs it off. Matt suits kraft.
Cellophane, clear bags, acetate boxesWhite vinyl, or clear vinyl for a no-label lookFilm packaging is a low-energy surface; the vinyl adhesive holds where paper peels.
Foil trays and plastic lidsGloss vinylSurvives the chiller and condensation; wipe the lid dry first.
Jam, curd and chutney jarsVinyl, or paper for dry storage onlyJars get washed and refrigerated after opening; see the jar labels guide.
Bread bags (polythene)Gloss vinylPolythene is the hardest surface for any label; press firmly and keep the label small.

Both our paper and vinyl stocks are suitable for use on food packaging. Neither is intended for direct contact with unwrapped food, so labels go on the box, bag or lid, not on the bun.
